Genesys Works Bay Area

The mission of Genesys Works- Bay Area (GWBA) is to enable economically-disadvantaged high school students to enter and thrive in the economic mainstream by providing them the knowledge and work experience required to succeed as professionals.

The program marries education and workforce development so that students can thrive in the corporate world. Rising high school seniors begin with a rigorous summer session consisting of technical and professional skills training. They then move on to year-long meaningful internships within some of the Bay Area’s top corporations such as Salesforce, Google, and PG&E. For their entire senior year, they go to school in the morning and then work at these corporations in the afternoon. In addition, they receive one-on-one mentoring sessions with GWBA program coordinators, which help them prepare for college and academic success.

In its third year of operation, the GWBA program has doubled each year, reaching nearly 200 students across Oakland and San Francisco. Over 95% of students who completed the program have gone on to college, with a 100% persistence rate beyond their first year. The organization currently has training centers in San Francisco and Oakland, and will be opening a San Jose office in spring 2016.

“You can take a course on how to fix a computer anytime, but learning to be a motivated person, to have confidence and initiative, and to be a good public speaker- those are the values that you can take with you for life, and that shape you into a different person.”
