This month, Credo is excited to partner with Holy Family Day Home, San Francisco’s oldest early educational childcare center.
Holy Family Day Home (HFDH) provides affordable, high quality early childhood education and family support services in a stable and nurturing environment, thereby giving the children of working families a sound foundation for lifelong development and hope for a successful future.
The majority of the children and families receiving help from HFDH are homeless or fall far below the poverty line, which makes thoughts of a better, brighter lifestyle seem unattainable. By helping them meet their basic needs, such as food, shelter, health care and employment, and by building a strong educational foundation, the organization shows them that the cycle of poverty doesn’t have to repeat itself.
HFDH is more than just a childcare center; it is truly a home away from home. Founded in 1900 by the Sisters of the Holy Family, it has been a shelter from the storm for over 16,000 Bay Area Families. Since becoming a secular non-profit in the early 90s, the organization has maintained its founding vision, which originated more than 111 years ago. The current demand for the organization’s programs is so great that services are now administered at two separate San Francisco locations: a Minna Street campus and the historic Dolores Street campus.
Beginning in May of 2012, the organization will move one step closer to the Day Home’s founding structure by joining babies (ages three months to two years) together with pre-school age children under one roof. This move will allow for greater, more continuous care and enhanced family services for all participating parents and guardians. HFDH believes that it takes a village to raise a child, but beyond that they strive to help children and families become stronger individuals, so that they may give back to their villages in the future.
